To start off my player grades I am going with Bobby Portis. This seemed like a decent signing at the time, a solid stretch big. But In classic Knicks fashion it turned out to be quite the opposite
Portis’ 2020 campaign saw drops from last season in his minutes, points, rebounds and 3pt percentage. While his true shooting percentage was up, it was only by a whopping .04% .
There is something telling when your minutes drop and you are on a worse team than the year prior. This is especially true with Bobby Portis. While he had his moments, like the Bobby Portis game he also had his blunders. Like his corner threes that always seemed to brick off the back of the rim
My expectations for Bobby weren’t high but he didn’t even live up to those. At times when he was on the court he just seemed to be a waste of space. For $15 million the Knicks got an average stretch big who isn’t a great defender
Depressed Knick fan’s final grade: C. He wasn’t completely awful he just wasn’t particularly good. He didn’t necessarily get worse, but he also didn’t get any better, and him improving was something the Knicks were banking on when handing him this contract. Overall a disappointing season from Bobby Portis.
