Sleep for Performance
Usain Bolt was known to nap before his races - that seemed to work out well so clearly sleep does something!
The NBA monitored one players sleep data and compared it with his performance outcomes:
More than 8 hours Sleep: +12% increase in minutes played
+29% increase in points per minute
+2% increase in three point percentage
+9% increase in free-throw percentage
Less than 8 hours Sleep: +37% increase in turnovers (against him)
+45% increase in fouls committed
Have you noticed a negative effect in sports performance following a shoddy nights sleep? Or noticed you’ve performed significantly better following good sleep or even a nap like Bolt?
Leave the performance gimmicks and focus on the things that will gain the extra % on performance: sleep, nutrition, prehab, training, sport intensity.
